iPhone OS 4.0 for iPhone 2G

An improved version of iPhone EDGE aka iPhone 2G is being launched as iPhone OS 4 by a group of hackers. iPhone EDGE was released back in 2007. Apple has decided to cut further upgrade support path for iPhone 2G in OS 4, due to low memory and slower processing rate. The former iPhone users enjoyed all the software upgrades for free upto OS 3.1.3.

The team's website also reports that they are rewriting 4.0 beta firmware so that they can create a custom firmware that can run on devices which are no longer available, like, iPhone 2G. To do this they had to reconsider the architecture of formerly released firmwares (by Apple) on devices, in particular that of iPhone 3G, which most resembles the smart phones.

Rest of it, we will keep you updated.
