Nokia N900 Real-Time Face Detector
Researchers at the University of Manchester revealed a real-time face tracker on a mobile phone this week and decided to use the Nokia N900 for demo. The aim for the research is to do both face and voice verification using the camera and microphone built into mobile phones for secure access to apps without passwords. This demo was developed for the EU-funded ‘Mobile Biometrics’ (MoBio) project as part of a face verification system for access control on mobile devices such as smartphones.
To register with a face verification system, you first record a video of your face. To log in to the system, you then record a new video and the system compares the new video with the original one to see if they match. If, however, you are facing in a slightly different direction or have a different expression in the two videos, your appearance on the screen is very different which may confuse the verification system.
